Abstract

This study conducts a semantic analysis of Uzbek proverbs that incorporate hydronym vocabulary, revealing their cultural significance and universal themes. Proverbs in the Uzbek language encapsulate societal values and wisdom, often using natural imagery to convey complex ideas. Hydronyms, or terms related to bodies of water, serve as rich metaphorical elements within these expressions. The analysis categorizes hydronyms into rivers, lakes, and seas, each reflecting distinct themes: adaptability in the face of life's currents, the deceptive calm of still waters, and the vast uncertainties symbolized by the ocean. Through qualitative analysis of selected proverbs, this research uncovers how these linguistic tools mirror cultural attitudes towards family, community, and nature.
